To take a multi vitamin or not take one?

To take a multi vitamin or not take one? It’s all confusing! On average, people’s diets are lacking in the essential vitamins and minerals, so some professionals are recommending multi vitamins. Other professionals recommend getting their vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants from the food they eat. Why?

Part of the confusion has grown due to the type of multivitamin one is taking. For instance, if the professional is recommending a multi vitamin and the child is taking the Flinstone Complete and ingesting these ingredients found in them: Red #40, Blue #2, Yellow #6, hydrogenated oils, glyphosate sprayed sugar, glyphosate sprayed corn maltodextrin, artificial flavoring chemicals, sucralose (artificial sweeter), gmo soy lecithin, mono and diglycerides, and more, then I’d side with the professional of saying just get your vitamins from real food.

Thankfully, there are some better choice products on the market. Use these tips when buying them:

1️⃣ Buy a multi vitamin made with WHOLE FOODS, rather than synthetic vitamins. According to Liu RH. Am J Clin Nutr. 2003, your body will absorb the whole food ingredients more so than the synthetic counterpart. The ingredient list should say words like spinach, carrots, beets, broccoli, etc. Foods that we eat.@silverfernbrand (posted) even claims you’ll get 100% absorption with their whole food multi vitamin.

2️⃣ Look at the “other ingredients” on the label. If it has red 40, blue 1, yellow 5 or 6, or any artificial dye, it’s not worth buying!

3️⃣Avoid the vitamins with high fructose corn syrup. See my post on “10 reasons I avoid high fructose corn syrup”

4️⃣Avoid ones with artificial sweeteners like sucralose, and acesulfame potassium (ace-k). They have been shown to be carcinogenic and destroy good bacteria in the gut.

5️⃣Avoid gmo glyphosate sprayed products (sugar, soy, corn maltodextrin).

6️⃣Avoid artificial flavoring! That’s code name for over 1000 chemicals.

7️⃣Watch the amount of added sugar, especially in gummies.

8️⃣For the BEST option, avoid natural flavoring. This is hard because most gummies and chewables for kids have natural flavoring. I give 3 options in pics.
