Sprouted Foods

Have you seen SPROUTED items in the store? Sprouted granola, sprouted bread, sprouted cereal, sprouted crackers, sprouted nuts, sprouted grains, etc. What’s the hype❓
.
Did you know sprouted food can be very nutritious for you? In sprouting:
.
1️⃣The germinating process breaks down some of the starch(endosperm), which makes the percentage of nutrients higher.
.
2️⃣It breaks down the phytic acid that decreases the absorption of vitamins and minerals in the body. I like to think of it as the sprouting breaks open the the cage to the minerals and vitamins.
.
3️⃣Nutrients that are better absorbed by the body after sprouting include folate, iron, vitamin C, vitamin Bs, zinc, magnesium, and protein.
.
4️⃣Because the germinating process breaks down some of the starchy endosperm, sprouted grains have less carbs.
.
5️⃣ Sprouting has been shown to decrease gluten content in wheat by up to 47%, which may make sprouted grains easier to tolerate. (B)
.
6️⃣Sprouting helps metabolize the lectins and increases the enzymes phytase and amylase, which make sprouted grains much more tolerable to the digestive system.
. .
What are sprouted grains❓
.
Sprouted grains are whole-grain seeds that have just begun to grow and aren't quite plants yet.
.
Sprouts are grown in a dark humid environment. Some are worried about store bought sprouts having bacteria grown in them. Harvard says if thats the case then "cooking or baking the sprouts should be enough to kill any bacteria. You'll also need to refrigerate cooked sprouts and sprouted-grain baked goods." .

Sprouting grains is quite easy to do at home. I will do a story on how to do that.
.
The pics above are just some of my favorite sprouted items, but many more options in the store.
