Do you remember making ice cream in the summer, maybe with your grandma, using an old crank ice cream maker and rock salt? You’d gather up the milk, cream, sugar, eggs and vanilla and wait until it was done churning.

Guess what? Those are still the BEST ingredients to have in ice cream! You should be able to recognize the ingredients on the label of an ice cream carton.

Sometimes we don’t have time to make the homemade ice cream, and need to grab a gallon of ice cream out of convenience. So here’s what to watch for in ice cream ingredients:

👎🏻Artificial sweeteners. This looks like (but is not limited to) acesulfame potassium (ace k), sucralose, aspartame.

👎🏻Artificial dyes. This would be Ingredients like blue 1, red 40, yellow 5, yellow 6, and more.

👎🏻High fructose corn syrup
.
👎🏻Excessive amounts of gums and fillers. This looks like maltodextrin (usually made from gmo corn), mono & diglycerides (may contain trans fat), carrageenan (not good for gut health) and cellulose gum (affects gut flora), among others.

👎🏻Nonorganic milk & cream to avoid growth hormones and gmo glyphosate feed given to the cows.

👎🏻GMO products like sugar and soy. Look for cane sugar instead.

👎🏻Artificial flavorings. This is code name for hundreds of different chemicals.

👉🏻Just FYI... a lot think the BEST option is homemade ice cream. But, homemade is only the best option if you’re using good ingredients. Otherwise the organic options pictured may be healthier than your homemade 😬
